Last night I decided to jump on the treadmill and knock out my run for the Jelly Bean virtual race sponsored by Run with Jess. For this event you can choose to run a 5K, 10K, or a half marathon or bike a 21K. If you happen to be crazy enough, you could do all 4. I am not that crazy. Then you enter in your times and that puts you in a drawing for some cool stuff. Being that I am too chunky yet for the long distances, and I am still sore from running sprints with my trainer, I chose to just do the 5K.
So once I got my munchie in bed, as to not be disturbed, I jumped on the treadmill and started my Nike + app to keep the time. I started with a quick walk to wake up my legs for a few minutes. Then I got to my slow run. I was doing good till about 1.5 miles in and then my legs cramped up really bad. I almost fell off the treadmill! That brought me back down to a walk. I slowly crept me speed up till I got back to my usual comfortable pace for a run around mile 2. I knocked out that last mile stopped the clock and cooled down with a nice 10 minute walk. My time was a 43:27, so my average pace was a 13'45'' per mile. Not super impressive for a 5K time but I am happy with it, It is faster than the old me who would not have bothered to get my butt off the couch for that long.
So then of course I came upstairs and had to snag some photos with my bling. Yes, this virtual race comes complete with a medal. Well you have to pay for the medal, but it is worth it to me. If you think about it most races you are essentially paying to run and get a dang t-shirt, and sometimes a medal. I love me some medals. :)
